Build a budget and compare company reports from your spending data

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: Owners who want a clear budget from past spending without giving any app their bank login

The poster uses WisePenny to pass bank transactions into ChatGPT without sharing bank logins, then uses Claude for budget analysis. They also have Claude sum up and compare company financial reports to help with investment research. Claude never touches the accounts.

Steps

  1. Export a few months of transactions as CSV from your bank. Never share your bank login.
  2. Remove account numbers and anything personal you do not need for the budget.
  3. Upload the file to Claude and paste the starter prompt.
  4. Check the category totals against your own bank statement before you trust the budget.
  5. For research, upload the company reports yourself and treat Claude's summary as notes, not advice.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

I am uploading [number] months of my bank transactions as a CSV. Account numbers are removed.

1. Group the spending into simple categories and show me the totals per month.
2. Point out anything that looks unusual or repeats.
3. Suggest a monthly budget based on what I actually spent, with a short reason for each line.

Show me your category rules first so I can fix them before you build the budget. Do not ask me for bank logins or card numbers. This is for planning only. I will make any money decisions myself.
