What it does and who it is for
marketingskills is a large, free collection of marketing skills for AI coding agents, written by Corey Haines. For search, three are worth knowing first:
- seo-audit runs a structured check of a website: can Google reach and index the pages, is the site fast and mobile-friendly, are titles, headings and internal links sensible, is the content useful. It works in that order, starting with the problems that stop pages being found at all.
- ai-seo is about being quoted by AI answers (ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews and others): checking which questions you get cited for, making pages easy to quote, and checking that AI search crawlers are allowed in.
- schema adds or fixes structured data, the hidden labels that tell machines your business name, address, hours and prices.
The descriptions above are what the upstream skills say they do; I installed and read them, and did not run a full audit for this guide. The skills share one context file about your business, so you describe it once. It suits owners who have a website and a builder or agent to change it, and builders who look after sites for clients.
I have not had this collection installed day to day. I checked it for this library, installed the three skills above into a throwaway folder, and read them before recommending them.
What you need first
- Claude Code or Codex (the README also lists Cursor, Windsurf and others).
- Node.js, for the
npxinstall. - A website you are allowed to change, or at least read.
- The skill is free, but it runs inside a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex, which may need a paid plan.
Install (checked 30 Sep 2026)
From the upstream README as of 30 Sep 2026. Everything:
npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskillsOnly the search skills (my suggestion to start small):
npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill seo-audit ai-seo schemaIf you ask Claude Code to run the install for you, the README says to name the agent, or the files can land in a folder Claude Code does not read:
npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills -a claude-codeOr as a Claude Code plugin, typed inside Claude Code:
/plugin marketplace add coreyhaines31/marketingskills
/plugin install marketing-skillsWhat I checked: in a throwaway project folder, the --skill seo-audit ai-seo schema -a claude-code install put the three skills in ./.claude/skills/ and finished with a reminder to review skills before use, because they run with your agent's full permissions. That reminder is worth following: open each SKILL.md and read it once.
First use
Open Claude Code in your site's project (or any folder, for a read-only check) and try:
What the skill's instructions describe: it starts by asking about your business, audience and goals if it does not have them, then works through crawling and indexing, technical health, the pages themselves and content quality, and ends with a prioritised list. Then try ai-seo on the same site with two or three questions your customers actually ask.
One useful detail from the seo-audit skill: a plain page fetch cannot always see structured data that a website plugin adds with JavaScript. Before believing "no schema found", check the page in Google's Rich Results Test.
How it chains with other entries
- Get found by ChatGPT and Perplexity: what to check is a shorter, no-install version of the ai-seo check.
- PLUTO gives you a free six-part score of your public pages first; these skills help you work through the fixes.
Watch-outs
- Keep the first run read-only. Say so in the prompt. Let the agent change the site only after you have read its list.
- Sponsored tools. The README has a sponsor section, and some skills name paid tools. You do not need any of them to follow the checks.
- No promises. An audit finds problems. It does not guarantee rankings or AI citations.
- Publishing is yours. Any page change goes live only after a person has read it.
