Turn a folder of trip receipts into an expense report
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Non-technical people who travel for work and hate expense claims
Ruben Hassid dropped 47 receipts from a trip into one folder and asked Cowork to build an expense report. Back came a spreadsheet listing each receipt by date, vendor and category, with sums calculated. Three blurry receipts were flagged and he filled them in by hand. By his account it took around ten minutes, where it used to take two hours.
Steps
- Put all receipts for one trip in a single folder.
- Ask for a spreadsheet with date, vendor, category and amount for each.
- Ask it to flag receipts it cannot read clearly.
- Fill in flagged ones yourself and check the totals.
- Keep the original receipts for your claim.
Starter prompt
The folder [folder] has receipts from my trip to [place] on [dates]. Make an Excel expense report with date, vendor, category, amount and currency for each receipt, plus totals by category. Flag any receipt you cannot read clearly instead of guessing. Do not rename, move or delete the receipt files.
