Use Codex for documents: summaries, spreadsheets and slide images
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Owners who want Codex to help with office work, not just code
A how-to guide moves Codex out of coding mode for general work and aims it at a folder on the computer. Two transcripts became a Word summary in roughly five minutes. Codex built a revenue spreadsheet from one short request in under four minutes, then fixed a formatting problem after a follow-up. It also turned a document into four carousel images in about five minutes.
Steps
- Point Codex at a project folder with your transcripts or documents.
- Use medium reasoning for documents to save credits.
- Ask for one output at a time: a summary, a model or slides.
- Check formulas and formatting, and ask for a fix if something imports badly.
- Watch the usage tab, since this uses credits faster than chat.
Starter prompt
In [folder] there are transcripts of [meetings or interviews]. Write a two page Word summary with key decisions, open questions and next steps. Quote people only where the transcript shows their exact words. Then build a simple Excel revenue model for [business] with these assumptions: [assumptions], with formulas I can change. Save both as new files and do not change the originals.
