Never miss a tax date or contract end date, and get a first pass on contracts

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: Freelancers and small business owners who keep falling behind on tax dates and contracts

A freelancer told Claude Cowork she kept missing quarterly tax dates, contract end dates and changes to the rules for hiring staff. Claude offered to set email reminders and she said yes. It also reviewed and drafted contracts and compared market rates. She says it handles most of the work well but the last part still needs a person.

Steps

  1. Write down every recurring date: tax payments, contract ends, renewals and licence checks.
  2. Tell Cowork what you keep forgetting and ask it to propose reminders before it creates any.
  3. Approve the reminder list, then check the first one lands in your email as expected.
  4. Give it a contract and ask for a plain summary, the risky clauses and what is missing. Treat this as a first pass.
  5. Have a lawyer or accountant check anything that affects money or liability. The source says the last stretch of the work still needs a person.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

I am a [freelancer or small business owner] in [country]. I keep forgetting these things: [tax payment dates, contract end dates, rule changes for staff or subcontractors].

Trial first. Review a made-up one-page contract that I will paste, or one you write yourself, and propose reminders for a pretend tax date. Nothing real is created. Show me the output so I can judge the format.

Then propose a reminder schedule for my real items, with how early each reminder should arrive. Show me the list. Stop and wait for my yes before you create or send any reminder or email. Showing me the list is not permission to create it. Create the first one alone, so I can check that it lands in my email.

Then read the contract I attach. It is a copy and not the original. Give me a plain-language summary, the clauses that could cost me money or lock me in, and anything usually included that is missing. Suggest a market rate range only if you can say where it comes from. This job reads and drafts only. Do not sign, send or accept anything. Tell me which points a lawyer or accountant should check.
