Qualify a lead list and write opening lines from recent company news

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: People doing cold outreach who spend hours researching each prospect

In a Reddit thread, the poster gives Claude Code a list of prospects along with fresh news about each company. It uses that to qualify scraped leads and write several personalised first lines for each. They liked that it handles far more context than ChatGPT, but say it can invent company details, so a person must review every output.

Steps

  1. Prepare a lead list and a short note on who counts as a good fit.
  2. Add recent news or links for each company.
  3. Ask Claude Code to mark each lead as fit or not fit with a reason.
  4. Have it write two or three opening lines per good lead, each tied to a source.
  5. Check every claim against the source before using it, since details can be made up.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

Here is my lead list: [file name]. A good fit is [description of ideal customer]. For each lead, read the company notes and news in [folder or links]. Mark it fit or not fit with one reason. For fit leads, write three short opening lines that mention something specific and true about the company. After each line, show the source it came from. If you cannot find a real detail, say so instead of guessing. Do not send any messages.
