Use computer use to finish a task when an app integration falls short
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Teams whose agent can do most of a job but gets stuck on one missing feature
Inside a single Codex conversation, the agent picked up notes left in Slack, changed a video and exported a fresh cut. Uploading files was not something the Slack plugin supported, so Jason Liu had Codex use Computer Use to finish. The agent pressed the attach button in Slack itself and shared the file. The source covers this in only a few sentences.
Steps
- Let the agent do as much as possible through plugins or integrations first.
- Find the one step the integration cannot do, such as uploading a file.
- Turn on Computer Use only for that step, and keep the window it needs open.
- Expect it to be slow, since it looks, clicks and waits.
- Check that the file landed in the right channel before you move on.
Starter prompt
Read the latest feedback on [project] in [Slack channel] and list the requested changes. Make the changes to [file] and render a new version. Show me the list of changes and the new file before posting anything. If the Slack integration cannot upload the file, tell me first. Then, only after I say yes, use computer use to attach the file in [channel] with this message: [message]. Do not post anywhere else or touch other conversations.
