Automation & agents · Claude Code + Codex

Copy your Claude Code skills and setup over to Codex

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: People with a big library of Claude Code skills who also want to run Codex

Charlie Hills used the Codex app import to bring across his skills, projects and latest chats from Claude Code. His CLAUDE.md file became AGENTS.md. Next, an OpenAI migration skill run from Claude Code handled the leftovers like subagents, hooks and shortcuts. 201 skills moved in an afternoon, 106 cleanly, and 155 skills plus 28 agents ended up running in both tools.

Steps

  1. Save a copy of the Codex config before you start, since the migrate skill rewrites it.
  2. Run the built-in import in the Codex app to bring over skills, projects and chats.
  3. Use the migrate skill inside Claude Code for subagents, hooks and shortcuts.
  4. Ask Codex to read your rules back and list which ones only work in Claude.
  5. Check the migration report for files left behind, such as items stored in cloud folders.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

I have moved my Claude Code setup into Codex. Read my AGENTS.md and the skills in [skills folder]. Make a report with three lists: skills that should work as they are, skills that rely on Claude-only features, and skills that reference files outside this machine. Do not edit or delete any skill or settings file. For anything that needs changing, show me the proposed edit and wait for my approval. Save the report as [report file name].
