Let Claude pick up assigned tickets, draft code and open pull requests
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Developers with a steady queue of tickets who want to spend their time on review
The poster wrote a small app that connects Claude's command line tool to GitLab. On a 15-minute cycle it fetches tickets assigned to them, decides if each is ready, drafts a reply for vague ones or sets Claude working on the code. Claude uses a new branch, opens a pull request and later handles review comments. The poster checks every one.
Steps
- Start with one well-written ticket and paste the starter prompt.
- Have it work on a new branch and open a pull request only.
- Review every pull request and fix style issues yourself.
- Draft replies to unclear tickets, but post them yourself.
- Watch your plan's usage before starting new work.
Starter prompt
Here is a ticket from [issue tracker]: [paste ticket text and attachments]. First tell me if the ticket is clear enough to start. If not, draft questions for the ticket author and stop. If it is clear, show me your plan first. Work on branch [branch name], follow the style guide in [file] and run [test command]. Show me the diff, the test results and the proposed pull request text. Wait for my approval before pushing or opening the pull request. Do not merge or push to the main branch.
