Describe a part in words and get an adjustable 3D model

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: Makers and small workshops who want simple 3D printable parts without CAD skills

An open-source app has Claude write OpenSCAD code from a plain description and optional reference images. The model runs in the browser with a live 3D preview, and sizes appear as sliders so you can change them without asking again. Exports include STL, SCAD and DXF.

Steps

  1. Try the hosted demo first, or self-host with your own API keys kept in a local env file.
  2. Describe the part with the key sizes and how it will be used.
  3. Adjust the sliders and check the measurements in the preview.
  4. Print or cut a test piece before making many, since the source gives no accuracy figures.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

Write OpenSCAD code for this part: [describe the part, its use and key sizes in mm].

Make every key size a named variable at the top so I can change it. Add short comments explaining each part of the code.

Before writing the code, list the sizes you will use and any you had to assume. Keep the design simple enough to 3D print without supports where possible.
