Find forgotten subscriptions hiding in your bank statements
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Anyone who suspects they are still paying for services they no longer use
The author saved bank statements with a folder for each bank and the month written into every file name. Cowork read every file in CSV, Excel or PDF, flagged charges that repeat over two or more months and skipped single purchases, grocery runs and bank charges. It built a dashboard with a card per subscription and saved a spreadsheet.
Steps
- Make a folder for each bank and put the month in every file name.
- Paste the starter prompt and let it read the files.
- Check each flagged charge against your statements.
- Mark cancellations yourself, since the cancelled column stays empty until you confirm.
- Rerun the same prompt each month.
Starter prompt
Read the bank statements in [folder]. Each bank has its own subfolder and every file name includes the month. Find charges that repeat in two or more months. Ignore single purchases, grocery shopping and bank charges. For each subscription, show: merchant, amount, how often, first and last date seen. Save the list to [file name].xlsx in the same folder. Do not cancel anything or log into any account.
