Fill PDF forms from saved details with a reusable skill
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Freelancers who fill the same tax and supplier forms again and again
Dave Swift dropped a blank tax form into a folder and asked Claude Code for its list of fields. With his details it wrote a short script to fill them and save a new PDF. The finished skill requests anything missing, offers to store details you reuse, copes with fields that have different names and flattens the completed form so its filled fields become part of the page.
Steps
- Ask the sender for a fillable version of the form, since flat scans are slow to fill.
- Put the blank form in a folder and paste the starter prompt.
- Give only the details the form needs, and store them in a local file, not in chat history.
- Open the finished PDF and check every field yourself.
- Save the steps as a skill once it works.
Starter prompt
There is a blank form at [file name].pdf. First list all the fillable fields. Then ask me for any values you need. Write a short script that fills the fields and saves a new file called [new file name].pdf. Do not change the original. If the form has no fillable fields, tell me before trying anything else. When done, tell me which fields you filled so I can check them.
