Fill in your accountant's tax organiser and review last year's return

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: People who get a long tax organiser from their accountant each year

A browser agent listed the organiser fields in small batches of pages, then Claude Code supplied values from tax documents and flagged missing items, and the browser agent typed them in while the author checked each page. A separate review of last year's return found a missed deduction the accountant confirmed.

Steps

  1. Use plan mode and work a few pages at a time.
  2. Check each page yourself before moving on.
  3. Ask it directly which files it opened and what is still missing. In this case it first said all was fine without reading the sources.
  4. Have your accountant confirm anything it finds in last year's return.

Starter prompt

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

I need to fill in my accountant's tax organiser for [year]. My tax documents are in [folder].

1. List the fields on pages [page range] as a table.
2. Fill in each value from my documents and name the source file for each.
3. List every field you could not fill and why.

Before you finish, tell me which files you actually read and which you did not. Do not submit the organiser. Never ask me for ID numbers in chat.
