Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Anyone who keeps notes or transcripts in a folder and wants a Sunday recap
A guide shows how to set up a scheduled automation in GPT's Codex app. It reads a local project folder on a schedule and emails a summary through the Gmail plugin. The demo used two transcript files and a Sunday 9 a.m. run. It takes under ten minutes to set up, then runs without input.
Steps
- Install the Gmail plugin through its sign-in screen and send yourself a test email.
- Create an automation attached to one small project folder and write a short prompt that summarises the files and sends the result with @Gmail.
- Run it once by hand and read the email before you set a schedule.
- Watch your usage. Every run uses credits, and big folders or high reasoning drain them quickly.
- If it fails, check three things first: an expired sign-in, an approval pause, and a missing @Gmail mention.
Starter prompt
Trial first: point the job at a small test folder, [test-folder], with two made-up notes in it. Run it once by hand and send the email only to my own address, [my own email address]. Every [Sunday at 9am], read the files in [project folder] and write a short summary of what changed or was added this week. Use up to [5] bullet points and list any open questions. Send it with @Gmail to [my own email address] only, with the subject [Weekly summary: project name]. Stop and wait for my yes before you turn the schedule on or run it on the real folder. Show me the draft email first. A good test run is not permission to schedule. Do not email anyone else, and do not change or delete any file in the folder.
