Get a rough first version of your tax figures from statements and invoices

Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet

For: Freelancers who want a head start on their tax filing before seeing an accountant

A roundup quotes one user who had Claude Code work through bank statements plus invoices and put together a rough first version of their tax return. The guide advises filing papers into folders such as income, business costs, medical and donations beforehand, and getting an accountant to check the result.

Steps

  1. Sort your documents into folders: income, business expenses, medical and donations.
  2. Paste the starter prompt in Claude Code inside that folder.
  3. Check every total against the source documents.
  4. Have an accountant review the draft. The success claim is one unverified quote.

Starter prompt. Change the [brackets] first.

This folder has my documents for [tax year], sorted into [income], [business expenses], [medical] and [donations].

Read them and put together a rough version of my figures: totals per category, with a list of the documents behind each total.

List anything unclear or missing. Do not guess. Do not file anything. This draft is for my accountant to check.
