Research companies from saved filings with quoted sources and a second check
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Non-coders who research listed companies and want every number traced to a source
A non-engineer keeps research in one folder of text files with company filings and a CLAUDE.md of rules. Claude Code reads only those files, pulls figures with exact quotes and document numbers, runs a second check, and uses small scripts for any maths. It spotted a metric that grew and then vanished from later reports.
Steps
- Save the filings you want into one folder.
- Write a CLAUDE.md that says to use only these files, quote every number and use scripts for maths.
- Paste the starter prompt and ask for a first pass.
- Run a second checking pass, since the first pass is never clean.
- Check any number you plan to rely on against the filing yourself.
Starter prompt
Read CLAUDE.md first. Use only the files in this folder. Do not use memory. For [company], pull [metrics] from each of the last [number] reports. For every number, quote the exact line and name the file and page. Do any maths with a small script and show the inputs. Then run a second pass that checks each number against its quote and lists any that do not match. This is research notes, not investment advice.
