Organise a tax folder and write a briefing for your accountant
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: People who hand a messy pile of tax papers to an accountant every year
Cowork was pointed at a tax folder of income forms, bank exports, mortgage papers and past returns. It sorted files into year and category folders, built a master spreadsheet, wrote tax summaries with refund estimates, flagged deductions and prepared a briefing for the accountant with a list of gaps.
Steps
- Copy all your tax documents into one working folder.
- Paste the starter prompt and ask for the folder plan before it moves files.
- Check the spreadsheet totals against a few original documents.
- Treat refund estimates as rough and let your accountant confirm everything.
- Send the briefing and gap list to your accountant yourself.
Starter prompt
This folder holds my tax documents for [years]. Work on this copy only. 1. Propose a folder layout by year and type. Wait for my OK before moving files. 2. Build a spreadsheet with tabs for income, expenses and possible deductions. 3. Write a short briefing for my accountant with totals, open questions and missing documents. Mark anything you are unsure of. Do not file or send anything. Never ask me for ID numbers or passwords.
