Design a website by giving Codex a written design spec first
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: People who want a better-looking personal or small business site without a designer
The author saved a long design brief as a markdown file in his project. In Codex he asked it to read that file and use it as the rules for designing his own site, then build the pages. Codex nearly got it right first time and a few rounds of changes finished it.
Steps
- Write or find a design brief and save it as a markdown file in your project.
- Ask Codex to read the brief and sum it up before building.
- Paste the starter prompt and let it build the first version.
- Give it short notes for a few rounds of changes. Keep your own taste in charge.
- Reuse the same spec file on your next project.
Starter prompt
Read [design-spec.md] and treat it as the design rules for this project. Sum up the main rules in five lines first. Then build [my personal site or business site] with these pages: [list pages]. Content is in [content folder]. Work in this project folder only. Run it locally and tell me how to view it. Do not deploy or publish anything. I will give you notes for the next round.
