Catch up on overdue business tax records with local scripts
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Small company owners behind on their tax paperwork who still use an accountant
A Dutch company owner had Claude Code write local Python scripts to pull two years of bank transactions, find receipts in Gmail, sort 330+ transactions, work out VAT and set aside 19 tricky items for the accountant to decide. It produced reports in the tax agency's box format in one afternoon.
Steps
- Export bank transactions as CSV for the years you are behind on.
- Ask Claude Code to write scripts that run on your own computer, not a cloud tool.
- Have it flag unclear items for your accountant instead of deciding them.
- Check a sample of categories and the VAT totals against your records.
- Hand the reports to your accountant for the final filing.
Starter prompt
I am behind on tax records for my company in [country] for [years]. Bank exports are in [folder]. Write Python scripts that run locally to: 1. Read all transactions. 2. Suggest a category for each one from [category list]. 3. Work out [VAT or sales tax] totals per period. 4. List any transaction you are unsure about for my accountant. Show me the plan first. Do not send my data anywhere except where I say. This is prep work for my accountant, not a filing.
