Pull YouTube stats into a checked Excel report and research leads
Idea + starter prompt, not run by us yet
For: Creators and small teams who want a quarterly channel report and a starter lead list
In a demo, Claude Code kept working toward a plain goal until it was met. It read a note describing the channel, ran a script against the YouTube API, made an Excel file with several tabs and took a screenshot to check the formatting. It pointed out that impression and click-through data were missing. It also made a 50-lead sheet with draft emails.
Steps
- Write a short markdown note about your channel or business and your ideal customer.
- Set up YouTube API access yourself and keep the key in a local env file, not in chat.
- Paste the starter prompt and ask for the report plan first.
- Check which numbers it says are missing and confirm the totals in YouTube Studio.
- Treat lead details and emails as drafts to verify, since the source gives no accuracy figures.
Starter prompt
Read [channel-notes.md] first. Then build a quarterly report for my YouTube channel for [quarter]. Use a script to pull the data through the YouTube API. The key is already in my local env file, so never print it. Build an Excel file with tabs for [views, watch time, top videos, subscribers]. Before building, show me which numbers you can and cannot get. After building, open the file, check the layout and tell me anything that looks off. Do not post, upload or email anything.
